Text Prompts

If you use the text-to-emoji feature, we process the text description you type in order to generate a matching emoji or sticker. Text prompts do not contain face data and are handled separately from photo uploads.

Usage Data

Usage Data may include your device model, operating system version, app interactions, crash logs, diagnostic information, time spent on screens, and similar technical data.

On iOS, we may also receive basic app and device information such as language, region, and app version to help maintain performance and compatibility.

Methods of Data Collection

Depending on the features you use, the app may collect face images and camera frames through the following methods:

  • Camera input: Direct capture of face images through your device's camera when you take a photo to generate an emoji.

iOS Face and Photo Processing

The photo-to-emoji feature may require processing the photo you select, including the shape of the face, facial expression, and related image features. This processing is used only to make the emoji-generation feature work as intended.

We do not use your photos for unrelated advertising profiles, and we do not sell your face data. If we use third-party processing services, they are used only to provide the app functionality you requested.

Face Data Storage and Processing

Storage Duration

Face data extracted from your photos is processed temporarily for the sole purpose of generating your custom emoji. Face data and uploaded images are retained only for the duration necessary to complete the AI processing, which typically takes a few seconds. Once processing is complete, all face data and temporary images are immediately deleted from our systems and are not stored permanently. We do not maintain any long-term storage of face data, and we never store face data indefinitely.

The reason for this short storage duration is that face data is only needed during the active processing phase to enable the emoji-generation functionality. After the emoji is generated, the face data is no longer required and is therefore deleted to protect your privacy.

Processing Method

When you use the photo-to-emoji feature, your uploaded images containing face data are temporarily sent to our third-party AI processing service (Alibaba Cloud's DashScope image generation and image-editing API, e.g. Qwen image models) solely to generate your custom emoji. The processing occurs in near-real-time, and the images along with any derived face data are deleted immediately after processing is completed and the final emoji is returned to you.

Third-Party Processing Services

We use a third-party AI processing service provided by Alibaba Cloud ("Alibaba") specifically for the photo-to-emoji and text-to-emoji generation functionality. We use Alibaba Cloud's DashScope API and its image generation / image-editing (i2i) models to turn your photo or text prompt into an emoji.

Reasons for sharing face data: We share face data with Alibaba only to enable the core functionality of our app — the photo-to-emoji feature. The face data is essential for the AI model to accurately stylize your photo into an emoji that reflects your expression and likeness. Without sharing this data with the processing service, we would not be able to provide the photo-to-emoji functionality that our app is designed for.

Face data storage by third parties: According to Alibaba's privacy practices, the third-party service provider receives your images and face data only temporarily for processing purposes. The images and face data are processed in near-real-time and are not stored by Alibaba for any extended period. They are deleted immediately after processing is completed, consistent with our own data retention practices. The third-party service provider is contractually obligated to handle your face data in compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations.

Third-party privacy practices: Alibaba Cloud, as our service provider, follows industry-standard security measures and privacy practices. Their privacy policy governs how they handle the data they temporarily process on our behalf. We have selected Alibaba as our service provider because they provide adequate privacy protections and meet our security requirements. They are prohibited from using your face data for any purpose other than providing the specific processing service we requested.

Data sharing for AI processing: We share user-provided facial images with third-party AI processing providers solely for generating custom emoji. This includes using Alibaba Cloud's DashScope API for image-to-image transformations to power the photo-to-emoji experience. Text prompts used for the text-to-emoji feature are also sent to Alibaba Cloud's AI models for processing but do not contain face data.

Sharing Your Information

We may share information in the following situations:

  • With service providers: to operate, maintain, and improve the app, including the Alibaba Cloud AI processing service described above.
  • For business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
  • With your consent: when you ask us or allow us to share specific information.
  • To comply with law: when required by legal process, regulation, or enforceable request.

Data Retention

We retain Personal Data only for as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and maintain security.

Photos you upload and the emoji generated from them may be stored temporarily on your device or in your app history so you can view and reuse them. Source photos sent for AI processing are not retained on our servers beyond the processing window described above.

Face data retention: Face images and camera frames are deleted immediately after processing is completed. We do not retain face data beyond the time necessary for providing the photo-to-emoji functionality.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Privacy Choices and Rights

  • You can deny or revoke camera and photo permissions in iOS Settings.
  • You can stop using the app at any time.
  • You can ask us to delete information we hold about you, where applicable.
  • You can opt out of non-essential notifications, if enabled.
  • You can disable personalized advertising or tracking features, if offered, through iOS privacy controls.

Tracking and Advertising

We do not sell your personal information. If we ever use tracking for analytics or advertising, we will follow applicable iOS consent requirements, including App Tracking Transparency where required.

Any tracking-related choice you make can usually be changed later in iOS Settings.
